  • Call, text, or chat at 988lifeline.org.
  • Free, confidential, and available for suicidal thoughts, emotional distress, substance use crises, or if you’re worried about someone else.


If there is immediate danger:

  • Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

  • Mobile teams can come to you to assess and help stabilize a crisis.

  • Available daily for emotional support when you need someone to talk to but it’s not an emergency.


If You’re Helping Someone Else

  • Stay with them if possible.
  • Remove immediate hazards (medications, weapons, etc.) if safe to do so.
  • Call 988 for guidance—even if the person isn’t ready to call themselves.


What to Expect When You Reach Out

  • You’ll speak with a trained counselor (not law enforcement unless safety requires it).
  • They’ll listen without judgment.
  • They can help create a short-term safety plan and connect you to local resources.
